In a small village in Mozambique, Africa there is a girl named Nhamo who lives a normal life, doing chores and helping feed the younger ones, etc..., but when cholera (a terrible disease) enters the village and kills some of the bravest men, they are forced to travel to visit a doctor called the Nananga.
While waiting for the doctor to let them see him, Nhamo finds out the shocking truth about her father and mother by her grandmother. When they go to visit the doctor she finds out even more . Her name means Diaster while her beautiful sister Mastivista means Thank You. The doctor says Nhamo must pay for her fathers way by marring the spirit he hurt.
When she gets back to the village the grandmother tells her to flee to Zimbabwe, where her father is.
After she packs up Nhamo begins the perilous journey.
I love this book because it has soo much adventrue and exicitment that keeps you going. I really love Nhamos charcter because she full of spirit and curiosity.
